Starting point

The challenge

Renowned Sounds books weddings, parties, and events, and almost every booking starts the same way: someone searches for a DJ and picks from what they find. The site was live, but nobody was responsible for it between projects, and being present online is not the same thing as being findable. Both needed an owner.

What we set out to do

Goals

  • Put one party in charge of the live site so updates, backups, and breakages stop being nobody’s job.
  • Make the company show up when people in Southwest Michigan search for a DJ or event entertainment rather than for the business by name.
  • Give every service the company actually offers a page that can rank and answer questions on its own.
  • Keep the path from landing on the site to sending a booking inquiry short and tested.
  • Give the owner a simple way to request a change without it turning into a new project.

Strategy

Approach

Maintenance first, then visibility. We started by taking inventory of the hosting, domain, DNS, backups, and forms, so routine care had something solid to sit on. From there the SEO work runs on a monthly cycle: research what people around Kalamazoo actually type when they are hiring a DJ, build and sharpen pages that answer those searches, add structured data, and keep the booking path working. Content and upkeep move together rather than in separate bursts.

Design decisions

  • Booking is treated as the primary action on every page, so a visitor who arrives on a service page never has to navigate back to a contact page to enquire.
  • Service and event-type pages are written to stand alone, because search traffic lands on them directly rather than passing through the homepage first.
  • Page titles and headings use the language clients actually use — weddings, receptions, parties, events — instead of internal service naming.
  • Media is kept deliberately light. An entertainment site invites heavy photo and video, and every addition is checked against load time before it stays.
  • Content edits are made in the same voice as the existing site, so months of small updates do not slowly turn into a patchwork.

Features

What we built

  • Uptime and error monitoring that checks the site from outside the company’s own network, with alerts routed to us.
  • Off-site backups on a set schedule, with restores verified rather than assumed to work.
  • Dependency and security updates applied and reviewed on a preview deployment before anything reaches the live site.
  • Keyword research focused on hiring intent — the searches someone makes when they are ready to book, not when they are browsing.
  • Service and event-type pages built and refined around those searches, each one able to answer a visitor’s question without further clicks.
  • Structured data describing the business, its services, and its service area, so search engines and AI assistants can read the site accurately.
  • Internal linking between service pages, so a visitor who arrives for a wedding DJ finds the rest of what the company does.
  • Search Console and analytics set up and reviewed monthly, with a short written summary of what changed and what to do next.
  • A standing queue for content edits — new photos, updated packages, seasonal availability — handled without scoping a new project.

Where it landed

Outcome

Renowned Sounds now has a site that is monitored, backed up, and kept current without the owner having to think about it, and a search presence that is worked on every month instead of left alone. Searches for DJ and event entertainment around Kalamazoo have a specific page to land on, and the route from that page to a booking inquiry is tested rather than guessed at.
